Holiday Season 2017-18! Northern Lights Break Arctic Hills

Holiday Season 2017-18! Northern Lights Break Arctic Hills

Northern lights holiday  in Lapland! Experience the  beauty of the Arctic hills each day in a different way: by car, by snowmobile, by skies and pulled by a team of huskies. As a bonus a night in an aurora cabin!

The northern lights season starts from September and ends mid-April. During this period it is also possible to see northern lights on three out of five nights, when the sky is clear. As we cannnot influence on weather we are starting our winter tours in the end of  November to be sure there is enough snow for winter activities..

Saariselkä  is the most northern skiing resort in Finland. It is a ski village known as a cross-country skiing paradise but there are also 15 slopes and a lot of other activities, for example the longest toboggan slide in the country (=over 1 km). Part of Saariselkä is located in the Urho-Kekkonen National Park. The most famous Arctic hills are called Kaunispää, which is next to the village and Kiilopää, which is 17km away from the village. Urho Kekkonen National Park  (=UKK-park) established in 1983 and covering 2 550 square kilometres, it is one of Finland's largest protected areas. It is named after the former president Urho Kaleva Kekkonen.

Village of Inari  is the center of Finnish Sámi people. This will be your first destination. The Sami people (or Lapps)  are indigenous people living in the northernmost areas of Finland, Norway, Sweden and Kola peninsula of Russia. In order to get a better understanding of the area, where you are traveling, we have included in this package a visit to the Sámi museum Siida. In Inari you will also see the Sámi parliament of Finland called Sajos as you will walk by on your way to Siida .

Muotka Wilderness Lodge  has a long tradition in serving cross-country skiers. You will arrive in this charming hotel after a sightseeing in Inari and Saariselkä area by car. The fell hotel is located next to the Urho Kekkonen National Park by the road leading to the Kiilopää fell center. It is an ideal place for independent, shorter fell skiing trips, even for inexperienced cross-country skiers as there are marked ski-tracks leaving from the yard and leading to the Saariselkä fell line. There are 200 km of ski-tracks, which you can see here (scroll down a bit from Saariselkä and you will find Muotkan Maja on the map): http://infogis.infokartta.fi/infogis-saariselka/

The lodge is built by a river on taiga.   You will stay two nights in a standard room and one night in an aurora cabin for one night and if you are lucky and the night is bright, you can spend a magical night under millions of stars and dancing northern lights. Note! In winter 2016-2017 there will be also new panorama cottages and log suites available at Muotka.

Guesthouse Husky  has over 140 Alaskan huskies. The Alaskan huskies  are friendly, social and active dogs, which are very eager to run and pull the sledge. They like working!  Sled-dog ride  is a great way to experience the Lappish nature in winter at its best.
