Southern Finland by rail

Southern Finland by rail

Ecological roundrip by train through the southern lake district of Finland to Vaasa on the west coast. Experience the countryside and the archipelago, swim in lakes and sea, meet local people and taste local food.

Destinations:

Hämeenlinna  is a small town by lake Vanajavesi 1h from the airport by train. You will first meet glassblowers Aino and Marjut in their colorful glass studio. You will see, how the glass objects are made and you will blow your unique souvenir yourself.

The holiday resort is located on a cape surrounded by the most beautiful lake nature. here you will have time to relax, have your own schedule and get on holiday mood. Depending on the time of the year you can choose the two outdoor activities you wish to try - for example angling or ice-fishing, Nordic walking or skating. hiking or snowshoeing. Finnish sauna belogs to the program of course.

Tampere  used to be the centre of textile industry in Finland. It is a town between two lakes, Näsijärvi and  Pyhäjärvi. The best way to see the lakes is to get up in towers. Our local guide Liisa will take you on a tour visiting three of them, the picturescue old tower of Pyynikki, the newest hotel tower with a lunch bar on top and Näsineula, the sightseeing tower. If possible, we'll also take you on water either for a walk on frozen lake or paddling by a giant canoe.

Vaasa  is the regional centre of the west coast and a gateway to the unique Kvarken World Heritage Archipelago. Vaasa is very close to the town of Umeå in Sweden. You will be driven by taxi to a small archipelago hotel with luxurious glass igloos, not for watching northern lights but the ever-changing sea view.  On the way you will stop at the new World Heritage Gateway centre, where you can learn more about the continuosly land.

One activity has been included in your package. It can be bird watching, fishing or hiking for example, in wintertime walking on ice or activities on ice.

Helsinki  is also called the daughter of the Baltic sea and the white capital of the north.  You will meet your local Finnish guide and take a look at the historical city centre first. Next day you have time for visiting a museum or two and Suomenlilnna sea fortress as well. Suomenlinna is a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Helsinki is avery walkable city but also a good idea is to rent a bicycle an make a wider tour round the city. Helsinki is full of events, there are daily concerts and other cultural events especially in early summer.
