Nature Tours in Pyhä-Luosto

Two nature tours in the Pyhä-Luosto National Park and its surroundings. Choose your combination of two tours and discover the beauty of Eastern Lapland.

Pyhä-Luosto National Park  is known for its 35 kilometer chain of hills and its extra-ordinary beautiful nature. In the middle of the park there is an amethyst mine, the only gemstone mine in the world that welcomes visitors. This mine hides many jewels, some of them can be up to 2000 million years old. If you are lucky you can find most famous jewel in Lapland – the Shaman jewel. In the center of Pyhä you will find the Naava heritage center , which is worth stopping by. There is a nice lunch restaurant and no entrance fee to the exhibition, where you can learn about the geology of Pyhä- Luosto´s national park as well as about the cultural history of the local Sámi people.

Tours are organised every weekday from Monday to Friday by a local guide with high expertise. Choose your favorite topics.

Choose one tour from the group I and one tour from group II: 

Group I

a) Fishing tour 3h

What if a strong trout or a pike catches your lure? These are just some great moments you might experience on your fishing tour. Also graylings as well as many other species live in the waters of Pyhä-Luosto. Includes friendly guidance, fishing equipment and transportation For spin fishing a license cost of 30€ will be added.  

b) Canoeing on river Pyhä 5h 

River Pyhä flows through the wilderness. Canoeing on river Pyhä is a great experience, which does not require previous experience on paddling. The tour is 13km long  On the way you might see wildife. Includes friendly guidance, equipment, roasted sausage and hot drinks bby campfire. .

c) Midnight sun canoeing 2h (1.6.-15.8.)

Words are not enough to describe the experience of canoeing at midnight on a lake. You will see the sun setting but then immediately starting to rise again. Included friendly guidance, equipment and transfers.  

d) Midnight sun hiking 3h (1.6.-15.8.)  

During this easy hike you will experience the magnificent scenery and landscape of Pyhä-Luosto fell. You will climb up to see the midnight sun setting and then immediately starting to rise again. You will hear stories about the mythical Lapland and who knows if wildlife is seen, too. Include friendly guidance, transportaation, roasted sausage and hot drinks by campfire. 

e) The historical village of Suvanto and Naava nature heritage centre 2,5h

The village of Suvanto is one of the few villages in Lapland, which survived from burning during the II World War. Its architecture and atmosphere with the landscape are great to experience around the year. Suvanto is one of the few villages in the region, which survived the destruction caused in World War II. This village has got Europa Nostra price and it was also on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. On the way back we'll stop at Naava nature heritage centre telling you more about the geology and nature of Pyhä-Luosto National Park. The exgibition also tells you about the culture of the indigenous Sámi people.

Group II  

a) Hiking tour to the Isokuru Ravine and the Pyhänkasteenputous Waterfall, 6,5km, 2,5h

Hiking along Finland's deepest gorge to "the Holy baptism waterfalls" provide a unique and unforgettable experience. The steep walls of the gorge rise up to 220 meters and at the bottom of the gorge the nature is rich and inhabited by various bird species.         

The Big Gorge Isokuru is about 2.5 billion years old, and several Ice ages have shaped the rugged landscape. During the hike you will hear geological history of the area, as well as the nature and history of the Sámi people. Please, remember to use good shoes and take a water bottle with you! Includes. friendly guidance and transportation. 

b) Birdwatching & hiking on nature trail 3h

This nature trail leads you through the beautiful forest and continues on duckboards over a wonderful mire. You can climb up to a bird watching tower and watch the life of the birds on the bog. Numerous species of Woodpeckers, Red-throated Diver, Swan, Bean Goose, Smew, Grain, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Little Bunting, Hawks and Owls as well as the Golden eagle, moose, reindeer and the brown bear can be seen from the tower. You will learn a lot about the wildife in Pyhä-Luosto region. Includes friendly guidance and transportations.

c) Photography Tour to the Amethyst mine 2,5h

The Amethyst Mine hides many jewels , and some of them can be worth up to 2000 million year old. If you are lucky, you can find the most famous jewel in Lapland, the Shaman jewel. During the tour you can take wonderful photos of the magnificent landscapes and wilderness areas. We'll drive near the Amethyst Mine by car.  Includes: friendly guidance and transportaton

d) Northern Lights Photography Hiking tour (15.8.-15.4.2020)

A beautiful trail leads through an old pine forest to an open space great for watching the northern lights dancing on sky. You will learn about the Arctic nature, the way of living in Lapland and natureally about the sky and northern lights. You will get help with the camera settings and tips on northern lights photography. Includes: friendly guidance, transportation, roasted sausage and hot drins by open fire.
